Greetings!

It is with great excitement to share that a few Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated recently launched efforts to establish an academic scholarship at Alabama State University (ASU), Montgomery, Alabama. The scholarship is in memory of our dearly departed Brother, Dr. Ralph J. Bryson, who entered “Chapter Invisible” on February 12, 2022.

Brother Bryson was initiated at the Beta Eta Chapter, University of Cincinnati on December 6, 1946. As a result of his lifetime dedication and support of our Fraternity, he maintained a remarkable personal and working relationships with several of our 10 Founders. His incredible rapport with our Founders unofficially earned him the title as the “11 th Founder”.

Brother Bryson served a 59-year tenure at ASU as a professor of English and African American Literature, culminating with his appointment as the Department Chairman before retiring in 2012. After retirement, he was honored as Professor Emeritus and continued to serve at ASU for several years. In addition, Brother Bryson was an active supporter of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, working closely with Dr. Martin Luther King, Brother Ralph D. Abernathy, Mrs. Rosa Parks and a host of other civil right activists. He was a long-term serving member of the Dexter King Avenue Baptist Church until his death.  It’s truly befitting we honor such a “Great Kappa Man” by establishing this scholarship in his memory. The scholarship will be awarded to deserving students who meet specific academic requirements and desire to continue their education at ASU.

Our goal is to raise $100,000+ in donations annually by March 31 of each calendar year. Please click here to make your donation toward this goal. The Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service approved this scholarship fund as a public charity, effective Feb. 1, 2023, and all donations are 100% tax deductible. We are soliciting both individual and alumni chapter donations.  As an appreciation token of chapter donations, we will acknowledge your chapter on the website and in advertisements.

With your support and ACHIEVEMENT being the primary purpose of our Noble Klan, I’m confident the NUPES of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will ACHIEVE this goal. Thank you in advance for your donations and support!

Dr. Ralph J. Bryson
